The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s department has begun its 2009-2010 tour that educates high school students about tolerance, awareness and respect. To accomplish this, the officers will visit many high schools in the Santa Clarita Valley with the Sheriff’s SHARE trailer, a vehicle that displays videos, interviews, and personal experiences of both perpetrators and victims. Students are able to gain knowledge about discrimination and intolerance issues that occur in society, and to learn about the consequences that follow these hate crimes. Not only will students become aware of real incidents, but they will also be able to participate and share their personal experiences of hate crimes. This program was developed by Sheriff’s Chief Neal Tyler to prevent hate crimes between adolescents. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s department continues to tour schools around the Santa Clarita Valley to impact students and create change and prevent hate crimes.
